East of the Oakland Park Boulevard drawbridge, one restaurant site has changed hands and another is waiting for a timeline. A few blocks south, on NE 33rd Street, one Sunday-evening plan has a City of Fort Lauderdale contract behind it. It is the NoBe Sunday Block Party at Fishtales On 33rd. It's free, runs 5 to 9 p.m., and is scheduled every Sunday through the end of December. From Coral Ridge and The Landings, the drive is a short trip east on Oakland Park Boulevard and over the Intracoastal. For the rest of 2026, the most predictable stop on that stretch is a street party.
The City calls the event "a weekly outdoor music and street festival held every Sunday evening in Fort Lauderdale's North Beach (NoBe) neighborhood at Fishtales On 33rd," at 3355 NE 33rd St. Fishtales calls itself a restaurant and nightclub, and its own site links to a menu and a live-music calendar.
The paperwork shows how organized the event is. The special event agreement lists Fishtales Bar & Grill, Inc. as sponsor, and the City Commission authorized it on September 15, 2026. On the application, Fishtales says the party has run from "2017 to present" at the same location with the same attendance. It describes the event as "Outdoor Live Music Event 5pm to 9pm" on the north side of NE 33rd St. between A1A and NE 33rd Ave.
The application also gives a sense of scale. It lists an expected maximum attendance of 375 and expected sustained attendance of 200. That's about the size of a neighborhood gathering on one closed side of one block. The schedule exhibit approves alcohol and amplified music from 5 to 9 p.m. Setup runs from 4 to 5 p.m. and breakdown from 9 to 11 p.m. So the north side of NE 33rd St. between A1A and NE 33rd Ave is affected from late afternoon until 11 p.m. That's worth knowing if you're driving to dinner nearby on a Sunday rather than going to the party.
The City's public calendar shows dates only through mid-November. The agreement goes further and runs through December. From October 25 through year-end, these Sundays are left, each 5 to 9 p.m.:
Two of those dates fall in holiday weeks. November 29 is the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and December 27 is the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's. When family is in town, a free outdoor evening with live music on a set schedule makes for an easy plan. The agreement's schedule ends on December 27, 2026, so for anything after that, check the City calendar or Fishtales directly.
The block party stands out because nearby restaurant news hasn't come with dates.
The biggest change is at 3330 E Oakland Park Blvd. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that Thasos Greek Taverna, which it described as an upscale take on Hellenic cuisine, has closed. A "Last Party and Supper" was held on May 21. The paper's photo caption puts the building "just East of the drawbridge," the first commercial block you reach after crossing from Coral Ridge.
The Sun Sentinel also reported that Meat Market, the steakhouse with a Boca Raton location, bought the venue in June. Meat Market CEO David Tornek told the paper: "Fort Lauderdale has been a market we've had our eye on for some time, and we believe this is the right location for our next South Florida restaurant. Construction will begin soon, with additional details and an opening timeline to be announced." That was in late August. For anyone in Coral Ridge or The Landings, the result is a steakhouse coming to the foot of the bridge with no opening date announced yet.
On Galt Ocean Mile, the same Sun Sentinel roundup reported that Giorgio's Bistro & Bakery at 3537 Galt Ocean Drive has closed. The Galt location opened in early 2025 and closed in spring or summer 2026, while the brand's Hollywood location stays open.
West of the Intracoastal there's another open question. What Now Miami reported in April that Whit's Frozen Custard plans a shop at 4336 N. Federal Hwy., just north of Oakland Park Boulevard, with an expected fall 2026 opening. An earlier interview with Business Debut had the franchisee aiming for September or October. For now, treat it as announced. A walk over from the Federal Highway side is a better plan once the door is open.
Put those four items next to each other: one closure turning into a future opening, one closure with no replacement named, and one announced shop whose fall target is still open. The Sunday party on NE 33rd St is the only item on this stretch with a date attached.
The block around Fishtales has its own dinner options, which means a Sunday on NE 33rd can start or end at a table rather than in the street.
Across the street, Scolapasta Pasta Bistro at 3358 NE 33rd St. lists hours Tuesday through Sunday. The menu includes pasta, chicken parmigiana, clams, risotto and gnocchi. Since it's open Sundays, it pairs easily with the block party. You can have an early plate of gnocchi before the music starts at 5, or a late dinner after the street reopens.
A short distance away on the water, Mastro's Ocean Club at 3000 NE 32nd Ave. bills itself as a waterfront Fort Lauderdale location with steaks and seafood on the menu. It's a different kind of evening from a free street party. Both sit within a few blocks of each other east of the bridge, which is the appeal of this pocket. You can choose a casual night or a reservation-and-jacket night without changing neighborhoods.
The crossing from Coral Ridge has one quirk. Federal drawbridge rules in 33 CFR Part 117 say the East Oakland Park Boulevard Bridge, at mile 1060.5, "shall open on the quarter-hour and three-quarter hour." Its neighbors run on a different clock. The East Commercial Boulevard Bridge to the north and the East Sunrise Boulevard Bridge to the south both open "on the hour and half-hour."
That offset matters on a Sunday evening. Anyone who has learned the Commercial or Sunrise timing will be 15 minutes off at Oakland Park. If you leave Coral Ridge around 4:40 to catch the first set at 5, you may meet the 4:45 opening. If you head home right at 9, the 9:15 opening is the one to beat. These are scheduled openings, so the span reopens once vessels pass. Still, on a night built around a fixed start time, the quarter-hour clock is what sets your departure.
For the ten Sundays from October 25 to December 27, the bridge gives Coral Ridge and The Landings a short, predictable route to a block party that has been on NE 33rd St since 2017. The steakhouse coming to the old Thasos building will eventually add a second reason to cross.
